We bought land!
by Aussie Oz inwe bought land!.
some of you might remember a delema i had a couple of months ago over buying a house... and gave lots of great advice.. well, we ended up buying a large block of land (modern developers would cram 8 houses on it) one hour outside the city in a really nice little town of only 250 people.
the block has an 1860 ruin on it that looks like an old school or church.

My cousin joined because he couldn't stand the thought that his father was in Hell. He joined for a hope of seeing his dad again.

Library Visit # 2: 607 BCE vs. 587 BCE - With Pictures!
by mentallyfree31 inapproximately five weeks ago, i visited the local library and searched every book i could find that discusses the destruction of jerusalem in ancient times.
if you didn't see that thread, you can find it here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/192813/1/607-b-c-e-a-trip-to-the-local-library-with-pictures.
the results were conclusive: all secular sources agree that jerusalem was destroyed in 587/586 bce.

Alice, JW's like to claim that everything they teach comes from the Bible. Can you prove 607 from the Bible ONLY?

Clarifications on the 2010 Generation Overlap
by pirata inyet another generation thread... but this clears up quite a bit of the ambiguity in the watchtower/outline explanations.
in "remain in the secret place of the most high", the closing talk of the 2010 district convention, the following clarifications were made on the 2010 generation overlap:.
the generation spoken of in exodus 1:6 includes all those mentioned whose lives overlapped (joseph, brothers, children, grandchildren).

Exodus 1:6 talks of Joseph and his brothers. These are indeed the same generation. The verse says nothing of children or grandchildren.

How much texting is reasonable for kids?
by moshe inour daughter is going into 6th grade this year and it seems she just started texting last month.
six months ago she rarely talked on the phone and now our home phone rings all day long.
today, she ran the battery down on our cordless phone and it died in the middle of my wife's phone call to her sister.

When they are no longer involved in the world around them because they are staring at the phone, they are doing it too much.

Alice, please help the lurkers here by explaining why you don't have a Babylonish religion despite the fact its ultimate foundation is a Babylonian clay tablet.

Alice, how do you feel about having a Babylonish religion? You said yourself that that is where 607 comes from. We all know that without 607, the WTS has no authority.

Alice, looking over your posts, it seems that you are saying that your whole religion is based on dates from clay tablets from Babylon. Doesn't it bother you to have a Babylonish religion?

Mormon vs JW experience
by thraxer68 ini was browsing some ex-mormon forums and i noticed that many of the experiences sound similar.
people spoke about brain washing, viewing outsiders as being ignorant of the truth, im not sure if im allowed to copy and paste from other forums, if im not please let me know but here are a couple quotes from ex mormon forums:.
"something i very strongly believe, is that even though everything has crumbled to the ground for me right now, i wouldn't change the fact that i left the church for anything.

You are fine in quoting from another board. When you do, please provide links to that board.
